Trickling trinkets
September 25, 2006I love this time of year. Like the changing of the seasons, August / September (although it seems to get earlier every year) herald the annual release of new trick trinkets and shiny bits from the bicycle industry. It allows us to indulge in that other, less spiritual, side of cycling – gear!
But bike companies don’t just put all their cards on the table at once. They love to watch us clamber for crumbs whenever they choose to drop them, working us into a drooling, materialistic fever. It is a flurry of sneak previews, early releases and internet leaks.
It’s totally addictive, but the first step is admitting it. C’mon, don’t leave me out here by myself……
Mmmmmmm new bits.
It’s also a time of year that I wish I had the cash to splash – a case of all that stuff I can’t afford. It has to trickle pretty bloody low before I’ll get my mittens on it.
I still appreciate all your updates. You’re our man on the scene!
Alot like Apple, really…
Seebs, I know what you mean aboot da cash. The beauty is that we get to debate the pros and cons of new bikes and bits without being the ones who drop a fortune on new technology that ends up being crap!
Gizo, I think even the bike industry could learn from Apple. I love the way when going from the iPod mini to nano, they took away all of the colour choices. Now it is suddenly big news that the nano comes in an array of colours. Pretty much the same colours that the mini used to come in. Genius.
